Arabian Wing epitomizes the first Saudi organization of its kind to launch publicly and officially an auction for contemporary arts. Likewise, it is the pioneer that laid the first building blocks for this kind of auctions.
In the early days of December 2011, Arabian Wings launched the first auction dedicated to contemporary arts in Jeddah, the city of art, in collaboration with Assinidi Expo, a leading company in organizing exhibitions.
Among the artworks that were exhibited was the lithograph painting of the international artist, Rembrandt, known as the Prince of Light, alongside several scriptures, antiques and artworks of Saudi Artists like Dia Aziz Dia, Hisham Benjabi, Mohamed Siyam, Najlaa Felemban, Mohamed Bahrawi, Mohamed Arrebat and Zuhair Toula.
The first session of the auction was a home run in all respects, which spurred virtually everyone to enter into the Saudi market either through developing new art auctions or exhibition halls dedicated to contemporary arts in Jeddah.
After acquiring substantial experience in art auctions, Arabian Wings brings back once again that unique experience by organizing the second session of its auction on December 5th, 2013. Its exhibition will be marked by housing the artworks of important Arab artists through displaying 80 contemporary artworks that are considered to be the acme of artworks ever produced in the Arab world as well as a set of transcendent and mesmerizing artworks, on the top of this list of artworks sits the creation of Khalif Bin Afif ,“Not for Sale”, which fueled a heated controversy in the media of the Arab world, alongside several artworks ranging from drawings, photographs, bronze sculptures to signed prints from well-established artists like Wajih Nahle, Saud Mahjoub, Bakr Shaykhun, Ahmed Qeshta, Hassan Mir, Fatma Lootah, May Saad and Dr. Mohamed Abou El Naga.
In a fairly vigorous rivalry with the displayed artworks, the inaugural prices of such breathtaking artworks are set in the range of 500$ and 20,000$ to strike a balance between the value of the exhibited work at a fair and reasonable price and the boost that artists get in terms of receiving substantial recognition in the world of art as well as seeking to motivate the Saudi purchaser to attend art exhibitions and satiate his or her thirst for art through purchasing and being keen on seizing such opportunity in every auction session organized by Arabian Wings.
To further assert that Arabian Wings auction is completely different from the ground up, a new method of its kind in the world has been tailored and will have a profoundly significant impact on the market of art auctions and the ways with which they are managed; new features have been added to the book, apart from the image, information and inaugural prices related to the artwork. Such features turned the book into a direct interactive medium with the purchaser, hence helping him or her make the right decision to bid for the exhibited artwork. Likewise, they are also considered to be a reference for the predictions that were made before the auction as well as its results, which culminates into a more gratifying and rhapsodic experience while flipping the pages of the book, as well as a reference for future predictions for the upcoming sessions. Thanks to a meticulous study that was carried out for the book design, the purchaser can access any artwork in the large book without the need to open it. Indeed, this is the very reason why Arabian Wings auction slogan is entitled “Innovation for Auction”.
The addition that shall cast luster upon such experience and further stress its success in this session is the collaboration of Arabian Wings with Fathy Jewelry Group as well as with the initiative of Sheikh Ahmed Hasan Fatihy, a pioneer in the world of auctions for over four decades with an established recognition worldwide in such events as well as with a considerable expertise in managing such projects. It is, therefore, undeniable that such collaboration will have a significant role in consolidating the experience in the region as well as in planting the roots of the auction deeper into the ground of Jeddah, the city of art, and more importantly it will shed light and promote Saudi art.
Preview sessions have been scheduled and will take place in Arabian Wings’ own exhibition hall, “The Gallery” between December 1st and 4th. As per the official auction and bidding session, it is scheduled for December 5th in Sheikh Ahmed Fatihi’s outstanding hall, which is finely equipped for such events in Saudi Arabia and mainly Jeddah. What is more, such sessions will be managed by Mr. Mohammed Bahrawi, one of the most remarkable specialists in contemporary visual arts.
The twenty fifth day of December is a D-day, it is the day on which a new history for contemporary art will be written on the land of Jeddah. Hand in hand and with a deep sense of patriotism, all of us shall contribute in making Jeddah a contemporary city.
